“Awake In Our Memories”

A project about remembering.

This animation tells the story of growing up and reconnecting with my inner child through self-expression. This is a personal story, which includes my own artwork and photographs from childhood, as well as a video of my dad from 1970 that was shot on film. I wanted this project to feel organic and handmade even though it would be experienced digitally, so I chose to incorporate real materials, my own art pieces and photographs layered upon each other to achieve a nostalgic scrapbook feel. I chose an audio of children laughing and a guitar riff that had a soft melody to carry through the story. The title “Awake In Our Memories” encapsulates the message of this short animation, which is to remember your roots and nourish your inner child. As we grow older we forget, but in moments, we are reminded of our own childlike essence that remains ever-present.
