VHTS X DEMSKY
Origin
LIGHT PROJECTIONS
The project began with an unexpected point of reference: my grandfather’s old paper cutter. The grid etched into its cutting board caught my attention, its intersecting lines immediately recalling the visual pattern of the VHTS × J. Demsky jiu-jitsu rashguard sitting in my closet.
J. Demsky’s work explores time and space through grids, horizon lines, and vanishing points. Seeing that same visual language in something completely unrelated—and something that may seem mundane to others—sparked the idea to start experimenting with it.
I began projecting Demsky’s imagery into the space around me and playing with intentionally placed lights. As I moved through the projections, this fabricated world started to appear. The lines moved off the garment and across my body, the walls, and the shadows around me. I also experimented with mirrors, reflections, and different perspectives to see how far I could push and reshape the space.
What started as a simple connection between the grid on my grandfather’s paper cutter and the imagery on the garment grew into an entire visual experiment—one that brought together the art, an object of the mundane, and my own way of seeing them collide.
